Disable the iPhone 3G backup once for all..!

Configuration, Software, customize August 25th, 2008

The iPhone 3G/2G ( Latest 2.0.x ) firmware’s backup through iTunes takes forever. Often an hour!. Now you can effectively disable this painful backup process both on Mac and PC.

For PC use : iPhone Backup Switch

For Mac use : Backup Disabler

If you want to do it manually on a Mac Terminal:

This command will change a hidden setting in the iTunes preferences that will force it to skip the backup process.

1. - Quit iTunes.
2. - Open Terminal.app
3. - Copy and paste this in, then hit return:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes DeviceBackupsDisabled -bool true

4. - Open iTunes
5. - Plug in your iPhone (2.0 or 3G) and sync.

It will take a few seconds, assuming you don’t have a ton of music or podcasts.

Changing the ‘true’ in step 3 to ‘false’ will re-enable the backup feature.

Fix the battery drainage of your iPhone

Configuration, Software April 10th, 2008

If your phone is ZiPhone’d or Pwnd recently to firmware version 1.1.4 , you must have noticed a considerable decrease in the battery life. Here are some working fixes:-

Phone settings;
Brightness: [-o------] Keep to the minimum.
Auto Brightness: on
Ask to join networks: off
WiFi: Keep it turned off all time. Turn it on only when needed.
Mail send & receive: once a day

Upgrading your bootloader from 3.9 to 4.6 also improves the battery life. You need the BootNeuter iPhone application(Installer Source: http://scape-server.org/iphone) and run it with the following settings. Make sure that you have set the [set auto lock to Never in iPhone settings screen before doing this]

After flashing is successfully over, reboot. Your iPhone will have more battery life now.

How to really reboot the iPhone

Configuration April 10th, 2008

To really reboot your iPhone simply sliding the ‘turn off’ slider will not do. Instead :-

  1. Go to Home Screen
    Press and Hold Home Button
  2. Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
  3. Keep holding Both
  4. You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don’t let go to slide, just keep holding)
  5. The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
  6. Keep Holding
  7. When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.

This will fix the memory leaks induced by many 3rd party iPhone applications. Do this once in a week and see your iPhone as snappier as ever!
